A picture book entitled Shūbi Gakan (i.e., Drawing Methods for Aesthetic Pictures) provided art lovers with woodblock-printed copies of paintings by some famous members of the Maruyama - Shijō school of painting. Edited by Sakujirō Nanbara and published in 1889, this book included the seventeen pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
